The Beulah Miners had a little bit of an unusual meet. Last week the Miners competed in two meets in the same facility. On May 7 Richardton-Taylor hosted a meet at the Henry Biesiot Activities Center, then on Saturday the Dickinson Town Crier meet was held there.

The boys and girls track teams were in two track meets last week. The Miners participated in the Badlands Conference meet and the New Salem Invite. The boys finished ninth at the New Salem Invite and fifth at the Badlands Conference meet. The girls finished 18th at New Salem and 13th at the Badlands Conference.

The Beulah Track and field team is off racing, jumping and throwing. The late continuation of winter hasn’t hindered Beulah as adversely as some thought it would.

A lot of people have a hobby or pastime they enjoy. But few can say that they have enjoyed and been deeply involved with their pastime at the highest levels. Local curler Dick Nordgren can say he has.

This year has been a frustrating game of hide and seek for local spring sports like baseball, track and golf. The sun and nice weather went into hiding, which made every spring coach and athlete go out to seek it on game day. The only problem was that the sun never showed any of its rays until the coaches and athletes went back inside.

The chances are high that you know Carson Simpfenderfer’s voice if you have a family member or close neighbor that has played sports at Beulah High School recently. Simpfenderfer has been filming high school sporting events since the 2007-2008 school year.

The Beulah Boys basketball team gathered to review their season and bring it to a close March 26. The season may have ended sourly but the team proudly reflected on the finished product.

There are a lot of awards and stories that help define a player’s legacy over his career. There are the all-district, all-region and all-state awards that show how the player performed compared to his peers. But no marker of a high school career says more than the 1,000 point scoring mark.

Last Monday Mother Nature played one of her famous jokes on western north Dakota. Mother Nature covered the roads with a storm of laughter making roads impossible to travel on, but the joke was on her.

The Beulah Miners entered the Region 7 tournament with a spotless record and looked poised to take their title protection duties to Minot for the state tournament. In the first round of the region tournament the Miners defeated Hettinger-Scranton and in the second round they defeated Mott-Regent. The only team left in the Miners’ way were the Dickinson Trinity Titans.
