Combating future disasters

12/03/09 (Thu)

Mercer County is revising its plan to combat future disasters and the public will have a chance to give their input before it is submitted to state and federal authorities.

The Mercer County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Committee and Local Emergency Planning Committee met Tuesday to see how well its priorities for the next five years match up with federal standards. Carmen Reed, who will be replacing Richard Sorenson as Mercer County Emergency Manager, led the participants through the steps to evaluate the 18 priority projects the committee identified. The process was called STAPLEE after the points to be evaluated – social, technical, administrative, political, legal, economic and environmental.
