Washburn repeats as Section 7 Champs, prepares for state

When it comes to competition in Section 7, Washburn coach Kip Erickson knows it’s going to be a battle between his team and Mercer County foes Hazen and Beulah. With a repeat trip to the American Legion State Tournament on the line, the Astros stood in the way but were taken down twice 14-6 and 12-4 en route to the title.
“These two towns, Hazen and Beulah, are good baseball towns,” Erickson said. “You are always going to compete with them no matter who’s in with them. Those games are always going to be close at times. We needed to play good baseball.”
