Going into the Class B State Track and Field Meet for the first time last weekend, Wendlin Berger was overlooked as a strong competitor in the 100-meter hurdles. It’s a status that didn’t seem to bother the Center-Stanton junior as he burst out of the blocks for a preliminary time of 15.93 seconds. It was a shock to the other members of his flight as the 15th seed placed second in his flight.

Holly Price is a busy young woman. The list of activities the Center-Stanton senior is involved in includes volleyball, dance, student council, yearbook, science club, band and choir. She also just finished giving her co-salutatorian speech last Sunday for her high school graduation.

Kirby Kraft already locked up his return to the Class B State Track and Field Meet with a qualifying leap in the triple jump. Last Saturday at the Trinity Town Crier Meet in Dickinson, he qualified for state and won the triple jump with a jump of 42 feet, 5 inches. His mark puts him among the top five in the state so far.

During the preseason, coach Kip Erickson knew he was faced with the challenge of maturing a young group into a solid contender among Region 8 competition. Nearly two months later the co-op between Washburn, Wilton and Center-Stanton schools is hitting the downward slope of their season and have only four conference losses to their name while sweeping three other opponents.

Kirby Kraft knows what it is like to stand alone. The Center-Stanton senior was the only Wildcat track and field team member at the Class B State Track Meet last spring. So far in 2010 he once again is the only one among his teammates to qualify an event.

Wendlin Berger missed most of his sophomore baseball season with an injury. Now a junior at Center-Stanton High School, the athlete is making sure he makes up for lost time at the diamonds.
