Rasmussen comes through with glove, bat in tourney opener

Meet Jeff Rasmussen, dream crusher. The Washburn American Legion outfielder was the man on the spot during the opening round of the Section 7 Tournament Thursday. His late-inning grab deep in the left field corner saved the run from scoring and then his seventh inning RBI clinched the 5-4 walkoff win over Hazen.

Batting adjustments seal Bears defeat

Washburn spent five innings helping Hettinger’s defense with hits directly into their gloves. By the sixth inning, however, Post 12 found the gaps en route to an 8-2 victory in the first game of a Section 7 doubleheader Wednesday.

Underdog status hurls Berger to the podium

Going into the Class B State Track and Field Meet for the first time last weekend, Wendlin Berger was overlooked as a strong competitor in the 100-meter hurdles. It’s a status that didn’t seem to bother the Center-Stanton junior as he burst out of the blocks for a preliminary time of 15.93 seconds. It was a shock to the other members of his flight as the 15th seed placed second in his flight.

From C-S track star to soccer striker

Holly Price is a busy young woman. The list of activities the Center-Stanton senior is involved in includes volleyball, dance, student council, yearbook, science club, band and choir. She also just finished giving her co-salutatorian speech last Sunday for her high school graduation.

Kraft a 2-time qualifier

Kirby Kraft already locked up his return to the Class B State Track and Field Meet with a qualifying leap in the triple jump. Last Saturday at the Trinity Town Crier Meet in Dickinson, he qualified for state and won the triple jump with a jump of 42 feet, 5 inches. His mark puts him among the top five in the state so far.
