The Center-Stanton Wilcats knew that it wasn’t going to be an easy tournament when they agreed to participate in the New Salem-Almont tournament. The Wildcats had to play Grant County, ranked eighth in the state, in the first round.

The Center-Stanton Wildcats are making a good habit. Earlier in the season the Wildcats edged out a close game against Washburn. On Dec. 15 the Wildcats did it again, this time against New Salem.

Last week the Wildcats started their 2012-2013 boys varsity basketball season. The first game of the season was a Dec. 4 game against Standing Rock. The Wildcats lost their season opener but were able to collect their first win of the season at the McLean County tournament.

The Wildcats opened the match with two victories but lost three sets in a row. The Wildcats will face off against the loser of Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky and Wilton-Wing Thursday, Nov. 1. The winner of the Thursday match will advance to the regional tournament.

Most people like to leave things better than they found them or at least with a taste of success. Brett Eckert did just that. Eckert turned in his resignation as the head coach of the Center-Stanton Wildcats football team after the conclusion of the season almost two weeks ago.

Early in the season the Wildcats lost two close games. After seven losses the Wildcats appeared headed for a win-less season, but not anymore. The Wildcats defeated Bowman County 46-22 Friday to get their first win of the season.

The Center-Stanton Wildcats hosted the Grant County Coyotes Sept. 25 in a District 9 match. The Coyotes dove to a 3-0 sweep by the Bentz girls. The Bentz girls traded places dominating the middle hitter position all night long.

There’s roughly a month left in the regular season and the Center-Stanton Wildcats are playing better as each week passes. The Wildcats won an early season match with Shiloh Christian that proved they were a team to watch in Region 5, but have recently proven the early season victory wasn’t a fluke.
