Quick strikes keep Bison unbeaten

The Lions may be king of the jungle.

But this is the prairie, son.

The big-play Bison once again provided fans big-time plays Friday night in a 39-22 homecoming victory over the Bishop Ryan Lions of Minot.

The big play has become a Hazen trademark thus far into the season, as team speed runs aplenty for the Bison.

"With the speed we have and the number of guys with that speed, if we catch a break they can take it all the way," Hazen head coach Rick Philion said. "And the (offensive) line also does a great job."

On Hazen’s first offensive possession of the ballgame, senior running back Chad Marshall took a swing pass in the left flats from junior quarterback Brent Sorensen and, sprung by gutsy downfield blocking, cut across the field on his way to a 70-yard touchdown.

"Guys were making the initial block, getting up and making a second block. (Downfield blocking) is something we’ve been pushing and it’s great to see that it’s getting through to them. It just shows the amount of heart they have," Philion said.

The Lions mustered one first down on their ensuing possession before punting it away. It wasn’t long before the Bison kicked it back to them.
