1/01/09 (Thu)

The Miners had their first home dual in Hazen Dec. 16 against the New Town Eagles.

At 103 pounds, Logan Eisenbeis pinned Nate Monk in a short one minute, 11 seconds. Then, Ty Horning received a forfeit at 112 pounds.

Ben Maliske wrestled eighth grader Jess Hall at 119 pounds. Maliske won by decision, 6-3. The dual score was now 15-0.

At 125 Scott Krebs was against Alex Monk. Krebs wrestled hard, but lost in a 6-19 major decision. At 130 pounds, the Miners were open and Justin Grinnell won by forfeit.

John Eisenbeis wrestled 135 that night against Jesse Bear. J. Eisenbeis got the first takedown and held on for the pin in 1:41. Jeremy Grinnell from New Town received an open at 140. The Miners as a team were still leading the Eagles 21-16.

Jared Weinand didn’t wrestle at 145, but he still got the Miners six points by receiving a forfeit. At 152, the Miners and the Eagles were both open.

Two Miners both moved up weight classes. Ryan Block moved from 152 up to 160, and Isaiah Krebs wrestled at 171. Block wrestled Jace Uran and pinned him in the second period in 2:37. Ryan’s pin made the score 33-16.

Isaiah Krebs stepped on the mat Tuesday with Ivan Wilson. I. Krebs worked for the first takedown and he earned the pin in 2:52. The Miners still do not have any heavier wrestlers, so 189 pounds, 215 pounds and the heavyweight were all open giving the Eagles 18 points. This made the final score very close, but the Miners took the dual, 39-34.

At the end of the varsity wrestling, there were three exhibitions. Horning wrestled Ben Hall and Horning pinned Hall in 3:39. Neither Weinand nor Grinnell had matches for varsity, so they wrestled an exhibition. Weinand added to his pin list and pinned Grinnell in 2:19, making Weinand undefeated thus far.

The last match of the night was J. Eisenbeis versus Justin Grinnell. J. Eisenbeis wrestled really well, but was defeated in a 2-6 decision. The boys wrestled hard that night and they took the hard work with them as they host their second home match of the season Friday in Beulah.
