Getting rewarded with coal isn’t always seen as a good thing. The Beulah Miners were awarded with coal for all their hard work and summer preparation Friday night. The Miners were victorious in the Coal Bowl 28-8.

Softball season has finally ended. The sport that helps less old and older athletes relive their glory days faded into the sunset last week as the last postseason tournament finished up Aug. 16.

The Hazen Astros improved their record to 11-3 by splitting against Washburn July 14. The Astros took game one, 3-2, and lost game two, 13-3.

Two teams, still have perfect records in our local softball league. Hazen Cenex/Universal and Hazen Highway Express/Subway are the only two undefeated teams in rec-league play. Only time will tell if either of these teams has the special 1972 Miami Dolphinesque perfection ingredient that the New England Patriots have failed to find.

Last week the Hazen high school sponsored a summer volleyball camp. The camp was the 19th sponsored by the school with the support of the Bison Boosters. The goal of the camp was to provide quality instruction for learning and developing skills.
