Cougars run down Bulldogs to extend perfect record

By Michael Johnson
Was it the cool weather that caught Bowman County off guard on Friday night? Not likely. It’s more likely that the Central McLean Cougars are a team that’s able to adapt to whatever gets thrown or rushed at them.
The Cougars extended their perfect record to 5-0 on Friday in Turtle Lake against the Bowman/Scranton Bulldogs team with a score of 75-26. The Cougars have been dominating the field in each of their games sometimes in passing, usually in rushing. The game Friday night was won on the ground.
The first quarter was a shocker as Central McLean quickly racked up 46 points, while Bowman was in a standstill.
With Matt Landenberger at quarterback and Dylan Ruff on hand for the hand-off there was little the Bulldogs could do to bite back. Ruff rushed on four occasions for 101 yards that led to 18 of the Cougars’ points.
Speedy punt returner Aaron Morman also added to the score as he once again ran one return all the way to the end zone. Morman would add 14 points to the total score. Tucker Fylling added 13 points to the score, three of which were from extra point kicks.
Dylan Ruff ran in the first three touchdowns of the game in the first quarter. That included a 33-yard run, a 50-yard run and a 20-yard run. Next Aaron Morman added a touchdown with a 45-yard run followed closely by Tucker Fylling, who grabbed the one completed pass of the day for the Cougars and ran in the 15-yarder. Aaron Morman ended the first quarter with a 50-yard punt return to make a comfortable 46 points between the teams.
The second quarter had the Cougars slowing down in the offensive domination. Nick Lee ran in a 4-yard dash that gave the Cougars another touchdown. The hard-hitting defense of Dalton Hirschkorn came out on offense to run in a 15-yard touchdown next. Jeremy Wirtz added one more touchdown in the second with a 35-yard run.
Finally, Chandler Braaten of Bowman County broke through and put in a 7-yard run to end the second quarter with Cougars up 67-8.
