After a dreary morning and an indoor pep rally, the Central McLean Cougars took to the turf for the 2009 Homecoming game against the Washburn Cardinals last Friday night.
The Cougars experienced some difficulties with the Washburn offense in the first half of the game but managed to lead 26-16 at the half. “The Cardinal offense did a great job mixing up their pass and run offense,” Co-head Coach Kevin Dockter stated. “They had two good drives in the first half.”
Dockter added, “The key to our success was our offensive line.” He praised, “Our lineman wore the Cardinal defense down.” Co-head Coach Keith Sundquist agreed, “Our offensive line did a great job sustaining their blocks.”
Both coaches also believe that the depth in the Cougar running backs was crucial to the success of the ballgame. “Our running backs ran hard,” praised Sundquist. Senior Grant Singer, junior Jake Ruff and his brother Dylan, a freshman, chalked up great yardage in the Cougar victory.
