Holsteins sweep Trojans

The New Salem Holsteins didn’t have an easy time but they swept the Trojans, 3-0, on the Trojan’s home court Tuesday night.

The Trojans kept you on the edge of your seat for three games but were unable to grab a victory.

The first game of the match the Trojans played very well and built a 16-8 lead before the Holstein-herd put together a 7-0 run and cut the Trojans’ lead to 18-15. Jenna Bayless put the Trojans up, 23-19, with an ace that was the last of the scoring for the Trojans as the Holsteins then scored the next six points for a two-point 25-23 win.

The second game saw the Trojans fall behind 7-11 when Rachel Hanson came to serve. The Trojans went on a 6-0 scoring run while Hanson was at the serve to take a 13-11 lead. The Holsteins then scored six unanswered points to take back the lead at 13-17. Back-to-back kills from Jordyn Sondrol cut the Holsteins’ lead to 20-21. That was as close as the Trojans got before losing 22-25.

The third game was close all the way with eight ties, the biggest lead being three points. The Trojans had the slight lead early but gave it up at 5-6. An ace by Hanson put the score at 10-11 Holsteins and a kill by Bayless tied the score at 11. The score was tied at 13, 14 and 15. The Holsteins took a 16-15 lead on a Megan Toepke kill.
