Cougars rip Miners
By TIM HANSON
The Central McLean Cougars rolled past the Wilton/Wing Miners 64-8. The win kept the Cougars’ play-off hopes alive but that was short lived as they needed Washburn to win against Mott/Regent. Mott/Regent defeated Washburn 38-24.
The Cougars scored five times the first quarter to take a 38-0 lead. Mitch LeRoy recovered a Miners’ fumble on the Miners’ 16-yard line just three plays into the game.
On the first play for the Cougars, Jake Ruff ran 16 yards around the right end for a TD at the 10:50 mark. Ruff also got the PAT for a Cougars’ 8-0 lead.
The Cougars’ second score came after Dillon Aldinger blocked a Miners’ punt. Dylan Ruff scored the TD on a 14-yard run at the 9:00 mark. The PAT failed.
The Cougars third possession started on the Miners’ 46-yard line. On the first play, Jake Ruff raced 46 yards for a TD but it was called back on a penalty on the Cougars. The penalty backed the Cougars up to their own 49-yard line.
On the next play Tucker Fylling caught a Matt Landenberger pass for a 51-yard TD at the 4:41 mark of the first quarter. Nick Lee scored the PAT to make the score 22-0, Cougars.
