Cougars overpower Benson County Wildcats

By Michael Johnson
The Central McLean Cougars held off a hard-driving group of Benson County (Leeds/Maddock) Wildcats on Saturday on a beautiful afternoon in Underwood. The day only got sweeter with a 39-14 victory over Benson County that pushed the Cougars into the quarter finals of the playoffs.
Benson County and Central McLean were both equally matched up and both had huge crowds that lined either side of the football field. Early on it appeared that it was going to be a tough game for both teams but the Cougars struck first.
The Cougars lit up the scoreboard in the first quarter with a touchdown and two-point conversion. Meanwhile Benson County made some very convincing strides down field but could not seal the deal.
Second quarter had the Cou-gars scoring one more with a failed two point conversion. The Wildcats decided to drive one in also and the two point conversion was good.
The third quarter had both teams adding a touchdown to the board with no extra points. Nick Lee nearly had an interception turned touch down after he nabbed a toss from the Wildcat quarterback. A hit from the back took the Cougars touchdown away. They soon recovered the ball and drove in a touchdown. This quarter showed the Cougars taking control of the Wildcat strong defense.
