The opening minutes of last Friday’s 9-man grid game at Trenton set the stage for a high-scoring match-up between the visiting Cougars of Central McLean and the home-standing Trenton-Trinity Christian Tigers as three long-range touchdowns were scored on the first three plays from the line of scrimmage. Things eventually quieted down a bit on the offense, as the Cougars picked up win number three on the season, outlasting the Tigers 36-26. It was boom-boom-boom for the offense on both sides after the opening kickoff, as Trenton’s Trenten Hove scored on the first play from the line of scrimmage on an 81-yard run, which was quickly answered by Central McLean’s Dylan Ruff when he scored on a 69-yard run.  Hove responded with a 78-yard score when the Tigers took over possession. The Cougars’ Dalton Hirschkorn would add one more touchdown to cap the first quarter, rumbling in from the 17-yard line, as the Cougars took a 14-12 lead into the second stanza following the PAT conversion. “It started out pretty crazy,” commented Cougar coach Kevin Dockter.  “They had a couple pretty good running backs and one really quick kid that got away from us a couple times.” Hove would add one more long-haul touchdown, a 61-yard-run in the third quarter, but while Trenton had the speed of Hove, the Cougars countered with the balanced ground attack from Ruff and Hirschkorn.
