A small contingent of five athletes will be representing the Central McLean Cougars this Friday and Saturday at the State Track Meet in Bismarck, which is four more athletes than had been headed there just a few days ago.

Rugby’s girls showed they will be a team to be reckoned with at the upcoming state track meet, as the Panthers ran away with the team title at the Last Chance Meet in Velva Monday, scoring 131 points.

The Cougars played a marathon game of softball Monday night against the DesLacs-Burlington Lakers as the softball game went into extra innings before the Lakers were able to pull out the 14-13 win.

The Central McLean Cougar girls placed fourth at the Washburn Invitational track meet this past Friday, led by a quartet of girls who placed in opens, relays and jumping events.

The Underwood elementary volleyball players are pretty much just like the older girls, hopping on the bus to go to the "away" games, but they do get more excited as they see the bus turn the corner to pick them up.

The Underwood Comets captured third place in the Region 5 basketball tournament last Thursday in Mandan with a 51-41 over Wilton, bouncing back from a tough semifinal loss Tuesday to eventual region champ Shiloh by the score of 67-32.

The Comets were determined not to let New Salem-Almont turn some little runs at them into an all-out run-away Monday night, as the Comets held off a battling Holstein team 54-46 to advance to the semifinal round of the Region 5 Girls Basketball Tournament at Mandan.

The Underwood Comets will be entering the Region 5 tournament this coming Monday as the number two seed from District 10, not quite what they wanted to be, but they’re going to regionals, and that’s the important thing, noted Comet coach Toni Cottingham.
