Aggies take District 11 title

The District 11 title game started out slow going and low scoring, but quickly ramped up to a tough battle before the Aggies took a big enough lead to claim the championship.
The Aggies faced off against the Towner-Granville-Upham Titans in last Monday’s final game, and beat their northern neighbors 64-50.
“It was an exciting game,” said Velva Coach John Lauinger. “The kids played extremely hard for 32 minutes.”
Cole Lauinger was named District 11 Senior Athlete of the Year, and was joined on the All District Team by classmates Josh Weidler and Tyler Ystaas. Their coach, John Lauinger, was named District 11 Coach of the Year, as well.
Lauinger led Velva’s offensive attack on Monday night, draining 22 points for the Aggies. Weidler racked up 14 points, Zach Podoll and Josh Sandy put in 9 each, Ystaas had 7 and Michael Wiest added 3.
“The kids did a really good job on the boards,” Coach Lauinger said. “This team has played very well all year and deserved the victory.”
