Aggie tracksters take first

The Velva-Drake Aggies made a strong showing at the Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood invitational track meet in Minot, last Thursday, taking the championship on both the girls and the boys sides of the track.
The girls took first by a wide margin with 143 points, well over runners-up Killdeer with 86 points. The boys eked out first place with 119 points, followed by Beulah with 107.
The girls had numerous first place finishers, and while some were close to qualifying for state, none quite made it. On the boys side, however, one of two champions made the grade, as Trenton Bruner went 41-6 in the triple jump to qualify. The other boys titlist was Wakely Pister, who took first in the shot put with a heave of 44-7 3/4.
Number one finishers for the girls were led by Drake’s Brittany Berndt, who took first in the 100 meter with 13.34 and also in the long jump, leaing 16-3. Berndt also joined teammates Anna Knutson, Breanne Sherlock and Brittney Thingstad to take top honors in the 800 relay, clocking in at 1:54.46.
Kara Kuntz jogged out first place finish in the 3,200 with 13:09.9, and Taylor Brudevold gave VD another first, taking the javelin competition with a throw of 94-1.
