Aggies tied for first in region
Velva-Drake’s win over MLSG (Mohall) last week knocked Mohall out of the three-way tie for first place seed in the region, leaving Surrey and VD to battle it out.
The Aggies took out MLSG 16-2 in the counter last Tuesday with Josh Weidler on the mound for the first four with 5 walks, 3 strikeouts and 3 hits. Tyler Mack cleaned things up with a couple strikeouts and no hits in the fifth.
“We gave up a run right away in the first, but responded with 3 in the bottom of the inning,” said VD Coach Mike Thingstad. “It was a big tone setter.”
At bats, Tyler Ystaas hit 3 of 3 with a triple and 4 RBI, Weidler was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI, and Ty Bruner went 2 of 4. Jon Mack, Trenton Bruner, Garrett Wible and Austyn Kittelson each connected once.
The Aggies went on to win 11-6 in the error-filled nightcap, but 10 walks gave the Aggies a comfortable lead. Sam Schultz threw the first 3 innings and Tyler Mack took the last 2.
Ty Bruner, Wible, Kittelson, Weidler and Jon Mack each had a hit.
