Athletes hit the track
The VDA track team was in Hazen last week, competing with nearly 30 schools. The girls finished the day in seventh place and the boys took tenth.
The VDA girls took first in the 4x800 relay race with Breanne Sherlock, Cassidy Peterson, Madison Letvin and Tasha Heisler carrying the baton. Sherlock, Haley Heiser, Sarah Weidler and Whitney Boehm joined forces for a fifth place finish in the 4x200, and Letvin, Sherlock, Heisler and Kaya Engen took fifth in the 4x400 relay.
In other events, Boehm took second in the 300 relay with a time of 50.94, and Heisler finished sixth in the 1600 run with a time o 6:06.79.
Brittany Berndt turned in a state qualifying long jump of 16-8 for a second place showing, edged out of first by just one-half inch. Chessa Baumgardner took sixth in the long jump with a leap of 14-8.
Three girls put up team points in the javelin, starting with fourth place Taylor Brudevold with a toss of 106-2. Engen threw for 102-4 for fifth place, and Baumgardner hit 91-2 for eighth.
For the Aggie boys, the 4x800 realy team of Josh Sandy, Shane Sherlock, Scott Bail and Zachary Niebuhr turned in a time of 9:37.05 for a fifth place finish.
Bail also came in eighth in the 1600 run, clocking in at 5:25.11, while Sandy came in fourth in the 400 dash with a time of 55.03.
In field events, Wakely Pister snagged first with a shot put heave of 45-9. In the discus, Codee Lee also took top honors with a state-qualifying throw of 140-7. Pister finished third in the discus with a distance of 132-9.
