Aggies open with a win
The first half was an ugly affair, filled with penalties and no points on the board. But the Velva boys got their act together in the second half and pushed in two scores for a 13-0 win over rival Minot Ryan.
At last Friday night’s game, the Aggies racked up numerous penalties in the first half.
“I don’t know what was going on,” said Coach Larry Sandy. “I was disappointed, but I’m sure it will get better.”
The first score of the game came halfway through the final quarter when Collin Kittelson pushed 3 yards into the end zone for the touchdown. It was Kittelson again a few minutes later, this time with a one-yard trip. Ty Bruner connected on one of his two point after attempts, making the score 13-0.
It was the Velva defense that ruled the day, holding Ryan’s ground game to 84 yards in 34 carries and only 8 yards in the air.
In contrast, the Aggies took it 181 yards in 33 carries and completed 10 of 21 for 86 passing yards. Velva punted it away 3 times and had just one turnover while Minot punted it 7 times and had 3 turnovers.
“The defense did okay,” Sandy said. “But we need to get all 11 players playing at a higher, more physical level.”
