Aggies keeping pace
The Velva cross country runners continue to have a stellar season with the varsity girls finishing fourth as team in last weekend’s Rugby meet.
Kara Kuntz took ninth place, Tasha Heisler ran down 14th, Breanne Sherlock 16th, Cassidy Peterson 37th and Katie Odland 58th, all in a field of 122.
“This was a big meet and will be very similar to the state meet,” said Coach David Peterson. “We are working hard to try to finish in the top five at state. In Rugby, we finished just out of third by a few points, so it shows how close a lot of teams are.”
For the varsity boys, Scott Bail pounded out a 43rd place finish among 105 runners. Sixty-one runners competed in the junior high girls division, and Rachel Bail finished 16th and Emily Odland 41st. The junior high boys won their event with the lowest score, according to Peterson.
“They all ran great races,” he said.
Daniel Kuntz finished third, followed closely by teammates Robert Finneseth in fourth and Christ Peterson in fifth. Dylan Lemons ran his way to a 13th place showing, and Shad Vedaa was 22nd.
Velva also had four elementary runners take part in the meet: Hunter Miller, 13th out of 51; and girls Jonnah Lee, fourth out of 58, Allison Reishus sixth, and Olivia Peterson, 40th.
