Girls take second place

The Velva Aggies came away from last week’s Sawyer Girls Invitational with second place, after beating Sawyer 67-30 and Berthold 49-44 to make their way to the championship game. They lost the title to Des Lacs-Burlington 62-32.
“With 4:14 remaining in the half, the score was 20-14,” said Velva Head Coach Chris Braaten of the championship game. “Our next several possessions consisted of missed layups and poor defensive transitions. We had the opportunity to have the lead, but instead we were looking at a pretty good deficit. When we tried to make a run in the second half, they always had an answer.”
