Still undefeated, foes still scoreless

Following last Friday night’s 44-0 rout of Lewis & Clark/Our Redeemer’s, the Aggies remain undefeated and their opponents have yet to score on Velva’s stingy defense. “We’re playing pretty decent ball,” said Velva Head Coach Larry Sandy. “I like the direction we’re going, from an offensive standpoint. We’re getting a lot of guys out there on the field.”

Aggies 206, opponents 0

Five games into the 2010 season, the Aggies are not only undefeated, but still haven’t allowed an opponent to score on them. After last Friday’s 66-0 rout of New Town, Velva has now put 206 points on the scoreboard for the new season.

Girls are hot, hot, hot!

The Aggie netters went to six consecutive regular match wins last week, taking down Dunseith 3-0 and then beating Towner-Granville-Upham 3-2.

Aggies open with a win

The first half was an ugly affair, filled with penalties and no points on the board. But the Velva boys got their act together in the second half and pushed in two scores for a 13-0 win over rival Minot Ryan.

Velva netters open season

The Aggie netters started the new season with the Bottineau tournament last Saturday. “We started the day pretty rough,” admitted Velva volleyball coach Jamie Sitz. “I was working with the line-up, trying to see who plays well where and by who. By tournament time we had it figured out and they pulled it off when it mattered. We took first in the Silver Tournament.”

Aggies get their feet wet

The Velva cross country team literally got their feet wet at last weekend’s meet in Jamestown. The race was held at Pipestem Dam, and the course included hills and streams.

Post 39 takes sectional championship

Velva’s Post 39 headed into last week’s Section 5 tournament as the number two seed, but came away with first place and a berth at this week’s state tournament in Grafton. It wasn’t an easy road, however, as the Velva nine had to play two championship games to claim the title. Post 39 lost a 2-1 squeaker to Rolette on Saturday, only to return to Kumm Field on Sunday and beat the Muskrats 14-8 in a come from behind blast. In all, Velva faced off with Rolette three times, the first on Thursday when they beat the Muskrats 8-2 and sent them into the loser’s bracket.

Velva athletes compete at tournament

The East-West American Legion All Star game was played in Mayville last Sunday, June 13. Taking the field for the West team were local ballplayers Jon Mack, Garrett Wible and Ty Bruner, all fresh off their state high school championship run.

A picture perfect tournament

The Aggies fought off the curse of the losing opener at last week’s state tournament by beating Enderlin-Maple Valley 2-0 in their first game. Coach Gene Buen credited “great pitching and defense” with the win, as Jon Mack and Ty Bruner shared pitching duties.
