The Velva-Drake track teams made another strong showing last week, this time at their own meet in Velva. The girls finished first with 148 points, followed by Rugby with 121 and Bottineau with 104. The boys had a second place showing with 127 points, with Rugby in first at 201. Central McLean finished third with 75 and Sheridan County-Anamoose fourth with 58.

The Velva-Drake Aggies smoked the competition last week, picking up four big wins, three of them region counters. The Aggies decimated McLean County last Thursday, taking both counters by a wide margin: 16-1 and 24-3. They went on to take down Garrison on Saturday, 12-2 and 6-1.

The Velva-Drake Aggies are pounding it out in style this season, with the boys and girls divisions taking first at the NW Conference meet in Minot on April 21, and following up with a girls championship and boys second place at the Velva meet last Saturday.

The Velva-Drake Aggies made a strong showing at the Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood invitational track meet in Minot, last Thursday, taking the championship on both the girls and the boys sides of the track. The girls took first by a wide margin with 143 points, well over runners-up Killdeer with 86 points. The boys eked out first place with 119 points, followed by Beulah with 107.

Despite wet diamonds and a delayed spring, baseball is back and the Velva-Drake Aggies are already at 5-1.

After beating the Surrey by 20 points earlier in the season, District 11 champions, the Velva Aggies, were expected by many to handily defeat the Mustangs in the opening round of Region 6 play. But in an unexpected turn of events, a last minute shot gave the District 12 fourth place team a 57-56 win.

The District 11 title game started out slow going and low scoring, but quickly ramped up to a tough battle before the Aggies took a big enough lead to claim the championship.

The Velva Garrison Max Aggies competed at the N.D. State Wrestling Tournament last weekend, and returned with several place winners, including a state champ. Senior grappler Troy Jespersen went 4-0 at the meet to capture first place in the final match of the tournament at 285.

The Velva cagers have ended regular season play with 16-3 record and are now preparing for the District 11 tournament this weekend.

The Velva-Garrison-Max Aggies capped off their Region 3 Dual title by qualifying most of their wrestlers at last weekend's Region 3 Individual Tournament in Rolla and taking another title. The Aggies claimed first place, getting by Rolla-Rock Lake-St Johns 218-191.
