Student takes second in state aviation art contest

Posted 4/06/11 (Wed)

It’s been 50 years since the first human, Yuri Gagarin, sailed into space. A year later in 1962, John Glenn orbited earth three times and then splashed into the Atlantic Ocean. Others followed along with many satellites.
In 1969 Neil Armstrong completed his “small step for a man” and “giant leap for mankind” on the moon. Others followed him too. Then in the late1970s humans designed a reusable spacecraft to fly into space and come back to earth on the first space shuttle flight in 1981. In the plans now is the International Space Station. Humans continue to be a presence in space.
