Oliver County to process own gravel product to save money

Posted 1/11/12 (Wed)

Oliver County gravel has been heading west to the oil fields for several months, causing concern among county commissioners as they look ahead to product needs for roads.
The discussion last fall led to an idea from Commissioner Lee Husfloen that maybe the county should locate gravel and buy ahead for the future of the roads. County Road Superintendent Bruce Nelson agreed and began a search.
The commission took the idea one step further at the monthly meeting Jan. 5, accepting a proposal from Patrick Jensen, Interstate PowerSystems, Bismarck, who explained how the county could self-produce its own road gravel and save money for the taxpayers.
