Demolition of vacant structures in Center is progressing. As of Sept. 28 five structures have been either demolished or are in the process of being demolished, according to Center Housing Authority member Joan Ronholdt.

Oliver County Tax Director Jacky Schulte has had quite a year as she continues the work required by the state to update real estate values. While most people understand that she is only doing what she is told, some haven’t been as understanding.

Two Oliver County landowners disputing over a quarter-line road have asked the County Commission to help solve the problem. The road was built on land owned by one landowner, but used by the other to access his farmstead.

Keeping a watchful eye on the education of young minds at Center-Stanton High School, new Principal Curt Pierce reported Sept. 10 to school board members that Center-Stanton students had lower ACT scores than the state average in some areas of instruction for 2008-09.

The Center City Council agreed to set a reward of 10 percent of the cost of vandalism damage with a cap of $1,000 for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for damage to city park property. This reward also includes the recent burglary at the city-owned Square Butte Creek Golf Course Clubhouse.

Dave Porsborg fired up his John Deere 9600 combine Aug. 25 and roared into a field of barley shearing a 30-foot span. He went to the end of the field, turned around, came back and stopped. He did a test by putting kernels into a gadget that records the percent of moisture within seconds. Too high. He tried another field nearby, stopped and again checked the moisture. Too high.

Tracy Peterson has joined the Center-Stanton School District staff as full-time school guidance counselor. Previously the district shared a counselor with Washburn and Wilton. The school board approved the move to full time this past winter.
