Time change now up to DOT

In a brief but tense flurry of business, the Mercer County Commission decided at their regular meeting last Wednesday to petition the Department of Transportation to switch Mercer County from Mountain to Central time zone.

The petition is currently being reviewed by Mercer County State’s Attorney Jim Johnson, and pending Commission Chair Lyle Latimer’s signature would soon be forwarded to the DOT, according to Mercer County Auditor Monte Erhardt. The DOT would then be open to public input and, if deemed necessary, hold a public hearing in the county.
