Beulah to get river gauge by spring

In preparation for the snowmelt this spring, and all future springs, the Mercer County Water Resource Board in their monthly meeting last Thursday afternoon approved the purchase of a seasonal water discharge gauge to help the United States Geological Survey monitor the Knife River in Beulah.

The gauge should be in place by this spring, Water Board secretary and attorney Greg Lange said. The gauge would come with an annual maintenance fee of $11,340, of which the USGS agreed to pick up 25 percent, or $2,835. The water board hopes to split the remaining $8,500 with two other entities, including the city of Beulah, Lange reported.
