Glitch delays Mercer County vote results

While the nation was electing a new president, and the state re-electing their governor, the folks in Mercer County will have to wait to learn the impact their votes played in Tuesday night’s election.

As of 5 a.m. Wednesday, the Mercer County Auditor’s Office was unable to provide vote totals for statewide or county offices, which included voting results for Mercer County Commissioner and Hazen city ballot measures.

According to Pam Drath of the Mercer County Auditor’s Office, election officials were unable to reconcile ballots cast with the poll books after a vote-scanning machine, known as an M-100, jammed sometime during the afternoon of Election Day. The result of the malfunction left poll workers unable to properly reconcile the number of voters with the actual votes cast.

It was just before midnight when national election reports showed all of North Dakota’s counties had reported vote totals, with the exception of Mercer County.

Vote tallies from 8 of 14 total county precincts were available at 5 a.m. Wednesday. Some partial results from Mercer County ballots include:
