Community Education begins to take shape

1/15/09 (Thu)

After a short hiatus, Hazen’s Community Education program under the guidance of director Darcy Putnam is quickly taking shape.

During a meeting of the Hazen School Board Monday afternoon, the board reviewed a listing of classes that will be available to individuals of all ages, as well as classes waiting in the wings.

The walking program was underway as of Dec. 1, and classes arriving soon include a weight-training class, intramural volleyball and basketball, puppy kindergarten for the fuzzy young ones, and kindergarten through sixth grade after-school enrichment.

Other scheduled spring/fall classes are barista education for coffee enthusiasts, pinochle, basket weaving, various computer classes, art, photography and CPR.

"This is a great start, I think," Board President Keith Johnson said. "And I think they’re doable."

"She’s been working hard at it," Superintendent of Schools Mike Ness said of Putnam. "There has been a lot of planning, calling and checking."
