Three being questioned after shooting

By Chris Erickson A shooting occurred in Beulah in an apartment building on 3rd Ave NW Tuesday night. According to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, a call was received at approximately 7:20 p.m Tuesday night from a residence at 1206 3rd Ave NW in Beulah. One person was injured by gunshot, one person is reported as deceased. The gunshot victim was taken to Sakakawea Medical Center. According to the Sheriff’s Department, at approximately 10:20 p.m. three persons of interest were being detained and questioned. At the time of publication it is believed that two weapons were involved. The investigation is still underway. No names have been released. No charges have been filed at this time. More details will follow in next week’s issue of the Beacon.

City buys land for new tree and grass disposal site

The Hazen City Commission unanimously agreed to purchase land just north of Hazen for relocation of the city’s tree and grass disposal site at its regular meeting Jan. 3 at Hazen City Hall. The city purchased about 1.9 acres total along County Road 18 about one mile north of Cenex from Jonathan Heine for $10,000. The city will fence in about 1.48 acres for the grass and tree site, while the remaining 0.41 acres will be used by Mercer County as a road right-of-way easement.
