McLean County harvest is looking good

Posted 8/18/10 (Wed)

It’s just exceptional. That’s how McLean County Agent Pat Carpentier describes what he’s seeing and hearing from McLean County farmers when they talk about this year’s crop. Harvest is underway throughout the county, and early reports are, for the most part, favorable. "It’s a good crop," Carpentier said. "Equally as good if not better than last year." The county agent said he’s been told of yields of 60-70 bushels per acre for winter and spring wheat in some areas of the county. The normal is generally from 35-50 bushels per acre.  While harvest is farther along in the southern part of the county, it is just getting started in the northern part.
