Three from Turtle Lake-Mercer School attend Girls State
Three girls from Turtle Lake attended the 2012 Flickertail Girls State session held on the campus of UND at Grand Forks June 10-15.
Flickertail Girls State is a mythical 51st state where “citizens” learn about government by functioning as a city, county and state. There they had an opportunity to campaign, run for office and give speeches for political office.
The Turtle Lake Unit 133 of the American Legion Auxiliary paid the fees and expenses for the girls to attend this session.
Attending from Turtle Lake were Mariah Sondrol, Chloe Bay-less and Sabrina Laframboise. All are juniors at the Turtle Lake-Mercer school.
Mariah is the daughter of Kevin and Lana Sondrol, and sister to Isaac and Melaree. She will be a senior this fall at TL-M high school. She currently serves as the local FFA chapter president and actively participates at district and state FFA levels as well.
Mariah is also class president, TL-M band president, member of the Student Council, Pep Club, and Acalympics team. She is also an honor student and had the privilege of attending the Masonic Honor Banquet and the ND Leadership Seminar.
