Soapbox racers run in the sun
By ALLAN TINKER
There was a total of 13 entries in the Turtle Lake Chamber of Progress soapbox car driver drawing on Friday, July 13. The lucky names received a chance to race in the soapbox derby held the next day.  There was also a new record number of entrants.
The race took place in the heat of noon time on the street between the Baptist Church and the former Tastee-Freez building on Eggert Street in Turtle Lake. The Saturday, July 14, event lasted until 12:30 p.m.
Spectators lined the two streets to watch the elimination heats and the final race for championship, cheering on their favorites and the kids in general.
The long trek back up the hill, pushing the race cars back for another heat, took energy and sapped many of the pushers into resting in the shade. The race was well organized and there were no mishaps or injuries.
