Our national symbol, the "Eagle" is more than a bird to Boy Scouts. The Eagle Scout rank is the highest accomplishment they can achieve, and two local boys have reached that mark. Bryce Barnhardt and Michael Trueblood are the latest Eagle Scouts to come out of Washburn Boy Scout Troop 79. According to newspaper archives, Washburn claimed the first Boy Scouts of America troop in the state in 1914 and was rechartered in 1929, which makes this year the troop’s 80th anniversary. The Washburn troop has a strong history of producing Eagle Scouts. There have been 61 who achieved this top rank since the troop was first established, Scout Master Laurie Sheldon said. Sixteen of those Eagle Scouts have earned the rank within the last 10 years.
