The question of what makes something art is the subject of discussion in many an art class. For years the work that Vida Klocke, Underwood, has been doing has been considered a craft, not quite an art. But the work that Klocke does, China painting, on plates, vases, cups and any number of ceramics requires a hand well-attuned to creating intricate images of nature. She believes her work has finally received some of the recognition it deserves as it was chosen by the North Dakota Council on the Arts (NDCA) to be displayed in the offices of Governor John Hoeven and First Lady Mikey Hoeven at the Capitol Building in Bismarck during the months of October, November and December. Vida’s works are on display in the governor’s ground floor and first floor offices, the first lady’s fourth floor office, and the attorney general’s first floor office for everyone to see during regular business hours. This is part of an ongoing program between the NDCA and the offices of the governor and first lady.
