A hair razoring experience
“This is just such a wonderful thing they’re doing,” said Ollie Glasoe as the tv cameras whirred and photos were snapped. “The community of Velva has always been so supportive of Verendrye.”
Glasoe, former Verendrye Electric Business Manager, is currently battling cancer. In her honor, thirteen VEC employees, and one volunteer from Farmers Union Oil of Velva, stepped forward to “Brave the Shave” last Thursday.
The event was a fundraiser for St. Baldrick’s, the world’s largest volunteer-driven fundraising event for childhood cancer research. Volunteers shave their heads in solidarity of children with cancer, while requesting donations of support from friends and family.
The VEC employees set a goal of $3000, with volunteers agreeing to “brave the shave” at different monetary levels. In the end, the effort netted $5,359, including $1,000 raised in just two days by F.U. employee Josh Wright.
