Velva students in grades kindergarten through sixth gathered in the Velva City Park on the afternoon of the Sept. 30th to observe Arbor Day. Their activities included planting a tree, assisted by the Velva Boy Scouts, and performing songs and poems. Joel Nichols from the Forestry Department made a presentation that included some history, education and the planting of a new tree. The children were also given prizes for participating.
Velva Park Board members and city officials were also presented with a Tree City U.S.A. banner in recognition of local tree planting and maintenance efforts.
