Economics professor addresses annual meeting
The joint annual meeting of the Velva Community Development Corporation, Velva Rental Housing and Souris Valley Care Center was held Monday night at Valley View Manor in Velva.
The meeting opened with a presentation on the “state of the state” from Dr. David Flynn, Associate Professor of Economics and director of the Bureau of Business and Economic Research at UND.
Flynn noted that North Dakota is in better shape than much of the country, although the state may “succumb to the U.S. trend eventually.”
“This state has had seven percent growth for three years in a row, and that’s phenomenol,” he said. “But it has to slow down, it can’t maintain that rate.”
After Flynn’s presentation, the three local entities presented their annual reports. The VCDC has over $21,000 on hand, and that’s without the tax distribution funds from the city.
Amy Boyle reported that rental housing is full and financially sound, with calls coming in constantly.
