Spearheaded by McHenry County JDA Director Maria Effertz Hanson and featuring participation from 12 local businesses, Hanson said the recent Job and Career Fair at Velva High School was a big success.
“We had a fantastic response from everyone,” she said. “Students, teachers and business people all had very positive comments.”
That reaction pleased Hanson, as she put the event together in just six weeks, but vows next year to take more time planning and add a few features.
“Some people wanted more time with the students,” she said. “Others thought perhaps inviting campuses whose curriculum relates to the businesses would be a good idea.”
The fair was held March 31 at the Velva School gym, and was open to freshmen through seniors. The ninth and tenth graders visited the job fair first, followed by the juniors, and finally the seniors.
“We might hold the next one in the fall to better accommodate the seniors,” Hanson said. “Most of them have made their college or job decisions by this point in their senior year.”
