Annual Yearly Progress reports The 2007-08 annual Adequate Yearly Progress reports, required under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), were released this month, and several area schools, including Velva, Sawyer and TGU, “did not meet adequate yearly progress,” according to the reports. (While Velva did not make adequate yearly progress, Superintendent Steve Dick pointed out that the school was not identified as needing improvement.) The report comes on the tail of the Velva Public School reporting one of its best graduating classes in recent history, according to High School Principal Brent Engebretson. “The ACT tests our seniors took came back way above average,” Engebretson said. “Across the board on the sub-tests, our students scored 10 percent above the state average.”
