A tip of the hat
At Velva Public School, students and staff joined forces to have some fun while raising money for the Brown family of Velva.
Rob and Danya Brown and their twin sons lost everything in a house fire on April 21. To assist the local family, students and staff offered to pay a dollar each for the privilege of wearing a hat to school. The hats got wild, and so did the competition.
Instead of just a buck apiece, determined kids busted open piggy banks and pocketbooks and pestered parents, raising more than $760 for the fire-stricken family.
“It’s amazing,” said Danya Brown as she accepted the check from the students at the school last week.
