New owners at the Pioneer

New owners at the Pioneer Jim and Judie Mello of Minot are pleased with their “retirement” project, and look forward to continued improvements. The Mellos have purchased the Pioneer Bar and Steakhouse on Main Street of Velva, and have already started renovations, including a fresh coat of paint and new seating. “We’re having a lot of fun,” Jim said. “I have 30 years experience in the food, beverage and hotel industry, so this isn’t new to me.” That experience remains ungoing, as he is the long-time manager of the Grand International in Minot, a position he will continue for the next two years until retirement.
