CANDISC returning to Velva
The CANDISC (Cycling Around North Dakota In Sakakawea Country) bicycle tour last stopped in Velva six years ago, and the city received rave reviews from riders. The tour is returning to Velva this August, according to CANDISC chair McKaila Matteson, who addressed the Velva Association of Commerce last week. VAC member Cindy Kittelson volunteered to take on the project, and hopes to repeat Velva’s strong 2007 showing.
CANDISC riders will spend the first night of their week-long ride in Velva, arriving in town on Sunday, Aug. 4, after traveling the 62 miles from Garrison in the opening leg of the ride. They are anticipated to begin arriving around noon or 1 p.m., and Kittelson wants to involve a number of community volunteers and organizations in welcoming CANDISC to Velva.
