A hair razoring experience

"This is just such a wonderful thing they're doing," said Ollie Glasoe as the tv cameras whirred and photos were snapped. "The community of Velva has always been so supportive of Verendrye." Glasoe, former Verendrye Electric Business Manager, is currently battling cancer. In her honor, thirteen VEC employees, and one volunteer from Farmers Union Oil of Velva, stepped forward to "Brave the Shave" last Thursday.

Arrests made in theft of $30k of grain

Using a "borrowed" grain truck, two local men and one juvenile were allegedly hauling and selling stolen seed wheat last week, after which they were arrested by McHenry County authorities on March 5.

A flood of concern

Representatives of FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers were on hand in Velva last Thursday, Feb. 24, to explain the project to update flood hazard maps and provide accreditation for levees.

Author to appear in Velva

North Dakota native Deb Marquart will be facilitating a book discussion featuring her memoir about life in North Dakota. "The Horizontal World: Growing up Wild in the Middle of Nowhere" will be discussed at the Velva School and Public Library on Saturday, March 7, at 2 p.m.
