Velva librarian wins prestigious award

"I was astounded," said Velva Librarian Iris Swedlund. "I didn't even know I was nominated!" Those words came following the announcement that Swedlund had been named the North Dakota School Librarian of the Year last month at the North Dakota Education Association convention.

Storm makes it tough on the farm

While people in town waited for snowplows to clear street, rural people often had to dig themselves out following the snowstorm on November 6. In addition, some farmers still have crops standing in the field while area ranchers still had cattle grazing in the pasture.

Got snow?

A little spattering of rain on Wednesday night and Thursday morning morphed into a full blown, old style blizzard by early Thursday, dumping upwards of two feet of snow on many parts of North Dakota, including Velva and the surrounding area.
