Streets repair and final budget get council scrutiny

10/07/10 (Thu)

The Beulah City Council got its first look at a citywide street project and its final say on the city’s 2011 budget at its regular meeting Monday.

City engineer Loren Daede and City Councilman Bob Schutt presented a first draft on a plan to make citywide road repairs. The city had planned to rotate street repairs between five and six areas and fund those repairs out of general revenue. That plan foundered when the cost of those repairs skyrocketed from $100,000 to more than $300,000 in 2009 due to higher oil prices. The City Council requested a plan to repair streets across the entire city, possibly to be funded by special assessment districts.
