Garrison Dam release down to 13,000 cfs for September

Despite more than normal rainfall the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has continued drought conservation measures at Garrison Dam. “Reservoir levels at the upper three large reservoirs – Fort Peck, Garrison and Oahe – are 3-9-feet below their desired elevations,” said Mike Swenson for the Missouri River Basin Water Management office.

C-S Public Schools willed 400 acres

Center-Stanton Public Schools has been willed 400 acres of land from a former student. Jerome Brazda, who attended Center Public Schools, passed away May 20 in Turtle Lake. He was 88 years old.

PSC hears testimony for wind field project

A wind project planned Oliver Counties had little opposition during a Public Service Commission meeting Friday in Center. “There seems to some strong support for this project in the community,” Commissioner Julie Fedorchak said. “That’s the most important thing. I think people should have a say what goes on in our backyards. You all have voiced your support for this project.”

Sporting Chance group builds new shelter at Nelson Lake

Community members and others using the recreation and campground areas at Nelson Lake now have a shelter from the elements thanks to Sporting Chance. The adaptive recreation group combined its annual family camping fun get-together weekend with some serious hard work. All of the materials and labor were donated.

Fundraiser set for young mother battling cancer

Shaina Adelman thought she had kicked cancer. Diagnosed in 2011 with stage 2 breast cancer, the young mother of two underwent chemotherapy, a bilateral mastectomy, radiation and reconstructive surgery.
